Today began the first of three days of PGA pro competition here in Naples, FL. Early, and throughout most of the day, the team of Steve Stricker and Jerry Kelly held a steady 3 to 4 stroke lead on their opponents.

The wind was certainly a factor. Predicted at 20mph early in the morning, everyone in attendance felt the strong, intermittent gusts and the golfers were no exception. Managing the elements was essential to staying under par for the day.

Late on, the powerful team of Justin Leonard and Scott Verplank took on the task of catching the leaders, which they accomplished. Two other teams came within one stroke of the lead as they rounded the back nine. It is sure to be an exciting weekend of golf; but as Greg Norman said at last night’s reception, we are all truly here to support pediatric cancer research.
