This morning at 6am, runners gathered during sunrise to support pediatric cancer research by participating in the first-ever Shark Shootout 5K. With approximately 500 runners, the 5K became the largest ever first-time fundraising event in Naples history.

Many of the runners put up extremely impressive times, many of them running the entire 5K at a full sprint, averaging four and a half minute miles. There were outstanding times at every level, with ages ranging from six to sixty plus. The weather was beautiful and there were smiles all around, as runners discussed looking forward to next year’s Shark Shootout 5K.

At the conclusion of the event, stage four brain cancer survivor Sebastian Gillen thanked and inspired runners with his breathtaking story. As he handed out awards, runners in each age group experienced a personal connection with childhood cancer.

CureSearch is very thankful to Greg Norman and his team for organizing such a powerful and effective fundraising effort.
