Bush to Veto Health Bill

October 31st, 2007

President Bush loves to say this about people he likes, “He’s a good man.” Well now, if all those good men would just stand up collectively and yell, “Mr. President, What the hell are you doing.”

Sorry, but it’s the only thing I could think of when I heard that Bush was threatening to veto a second bill for the Children’s Health Insurance Program. The bill would provide coverage for an additional 4 million children.

You might have heard that our great Commander in Chief vetoed the first bill which would have covered another 3.8 million for a cost of $35 billion over five years.

Chuck Grassley, the lead Republican on the Finance Committee had this to say, “The bill gets rid of the bad policies in the current SCHIP law, which will continue by way of the program extensions that are inevitable without new legislation. This bill offered a responsible way for Congress to do its job of renewing a program that states have made a success for lower-income working families.”
